His first visitors are Isetis and Osirous of the Free Reigns, emissaries of Eternal Basthet, who reveal that Enkidu the Untombed—not Basthet—is their true Ancestor. They recount serving as Enkidu’s companions when he ruled a minor kingdom amid constant warfare between hundreds of rival states, until Basthet, weary of the bloodshed, prayed to the desert spirits and Enkidu received a dream showing two futures: endless war or unified peace. Though Isetis and Osirous scorned Enkidu’s shift toward alliance-building, his cooperation with Layth to repel Ao Loong and the Eastern Regions led the kingdoms to unite as a single nation. Enkidu crowned Basthet queen and withdrew to guide the realm from the shadows, authoring early laws in Petra, while Isetis and Osirous departed in disillusionment. After Enkidu’s death, they returned in shame to guard his tomb, only to later rejoin him upon his resurrection. As their audience ends, they bestow upon The Keeper a boon from Enkidu that transforms him into The Chronicler, before departing to allow the next emissary to speak.

He recalls that during Diabolus’s rule, surface monsters and even tourists began entering Hell after Kaih the Sunmelter struck a pact granting the Fiery Forces the power to open Hellgates at will, a development Diabolus embraced for the influx of souls that strengthened him despite the risk of the Underworld’s fires consuming all realms. Alarmed by the growing imbalance, Barbatos secretly ordered servants to seal the new Hellgates and assembled forces to oppose the Fiery Forces, before confronting Diabolus directly. With Kaih present, Barbatos was accused of treason, leading to a duel observed by Diabolus himself, which Barbatos claims to have won. According to his account, Diabolus, impressed by his resolve, elevated Barbatos as the public ruler of the Underworld while choosing to govern from the shadows, confining himself within a ring of enchanted ice to contain his destructive power. As Barbatos departs upon the arrival of the Citizens’ representative, The Chronicler reflects on the testimony, uncertain how much of the Underworld’s history has been shaped by truth and how much by Barbatos’s self-serving interpretation.
