			In the present day, an A.R.G.U.S.-sanctioned archaeological dig led by Dr. Alexander Knox and former soldier Ashur uncovers the sealed gates of Eridu in southern Iraq. When Ashur unwittingly activates a ritual chamber, a fracture ripples across the desert, awakening Ereshkigal and unleashing plagues that cause mass disappearances. Sensing the imbalance, Queen Hippolyta's spirit appears in Themyscira’s sacred pool—warning that the old gods are rising.

			Elsewhere, Diana Prince lives in solitude within a nomadic village in northern Mongolia, having abandoned her role as Wonder Woman after centuries of disillusionment. She is visited by Damian Wayne, sent by Batman to retrieve a forgotten Amazonian relic—one that now reacts violently to Ereshkigal’s return. Though wary of the world she left behind, Diana agrees to accompany Damian into the desert.
