ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter game developed by SOI Studios and published by Mob Productions. It is the third installment in the ShooterofIO series and the sequel to ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2023).
Set a few years after the events of Modern Ops in 2026, Modern Ops 2 is set before a war. Similar to the previous two ShooterofIO games, the game's campaign mode has players doing parkour, puzzles, and mini-quests from closed in maps with objectives to open-world combat missions. The game's multiplayer mode brings various map design changes to how they are designed, with 14 maps being available at launch, and over thirty weapons made available alongside them. In addition to the two core modes, Modern Ops 2 features a "Missions" cooperative mode that features 12 original playable levels that can be completed to earn various rewards. In similar fashion to that of the first Modern Ops title, Modern Ops 2 will feature a free-to-play experience that is set to be released in late 2025 called ShooterofIO: Wargrounds 2.0, and can be downloaded seperately to Modern Ops 2.
Development on Modern Ops 2 began in late 2023, shortly before the release of ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2023), with SOI Studios opting to expand the franchise after ShooterofIO: Dark Warfare was announced in December 2023. Initially conceived as an expansion to the first game, the project was reworked into a standalone sequel built in Unreal Engine and designed to reinvent the series’ first-person action while incorporating mechanics from Dark Warfare. Early reports of the game surfaced in June 2024, followed by details from a private playtest in December. Marketing began in March 2025, leading to a full reveal on May 15 and a public beta planned for early October. Modern Ops 2 is scheduled for release on November 3, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
Gameplay
Modern Ops 2 retains the core first-person shooter mechanics of its predecessor while introducing several new gameplay experiences across its three main modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and a new cooperative mode called Missions.[1] The game emphasizes fast-paced movement, allowing players to dive, slide, and climb as part of the refined mobility system.[2] Players can expect combat to be fluid and responsive, with a strong focus on aggressive gunplay and tactical map control.[3]
Campaign
The campaign of Modern Ops 2 combines elements of tactical realism with fast-paced, arcade-influenced gameplay. It consists of more than a dozen large-scale missions set across diverse environments. Players assume the roles of multiple protagonists, including Marin Davor, Elias Wren, and Julia Varga, each of whom offers a distinct perspective on the overarching narrative. Missions feature a mixture of traditional combat encounters, parkour traversal sequences, puzzle-solving sections, and objective-based tasks, designed to encourage varied play styles and maintain narrative momentum.
Multiplayer

Operator customization includes skins, face paint, emblems, and other modifiers, while Wildcards, perks, and killstreaks unlock progressively.[5] The Gunsmith system remains central, with enhancements such as attachment weight statistics and an in-game firing range for testing loadouts.[6]
Missions
Premise
Modern Ops 2 is set in 2026, three years after the events of ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2023), and follows the return of global special operations unit Task Force Orion as they pursue the elusive war criminal Anton Sokol, now presumed to be orchestrating mass destabilization efforts across Eastern Europe and the Middle East.[7] With a new wave of coordinated attacks threatening to ignite international conflict, Orion must operate outside official channels to dismantle the revived paramilitary network known as Black Larch before a second Zeront crisis is unleashed.[8]
Development
The game was officially announced on January 27, 2025, with a scheduled release date in November 2025.[9] Modern Ops 2 is being developed by SOI Studios, with production beginning in late 2023 shortly before the release of ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2023).[10] The project was initially conceived as an expansion to the original game before being reworked as a standalone sequel.[11] The sequel was positioned by the studio as a reinvention of first-person action while also incorporating mechanics introduced in ShooterofIO: Dark Warfare (2024).[12] Reports of the game surfaced in June 2024, when insiders leaked details suggesting the inclusion of “advanced weaponry” systems.[13] Additional information was shared in December 2024 by an individual claiming to have attended a private playtest.[14] SOI Studios had previously expressed interest in producing a sequel if the first game proved successful.[15] By March 2025, the studio reaffirmed its November 3, 2025 release target and indicated that a full public reveal would arrive “sooner rather than later.”[16] The game is being developed using Unreal Engine.[17]
Marketing
Modern Ops 2 was officially announced on January 27, 2025, and was revealed in detail on May 15, 2025 at Shootercon.
In anticipation of its November 3, 2025 release, ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2 has introduced a comprehensive marketing campaign centered around preorder incentives and a revamped in-game economy. Players who preorder the game gain immediate access to exclusive benefits, including early Battle Pass tier skips and XP boosts for the first season. Notably, Modern Ops 2 departs from the traditional multiple edition model, opting instead for a single, unified version to ensure all players have equal access to preorder perks and post-launch content. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
A significant addition to the franchise is the introduction of SOI Coins, a new premium currency exclusive to Modern Ops 2. These coins can be used to purchase a variety of in-game items, such as operator bundles, weapon blueprints, vehicle skins, and Battle Pass tiers. While SOI Coins cannot be transferred between different ShooterofIO titles, they do not expire and can be earned through certain Battle Pass tiers, allowing players to unlock future content without additional real-world spending. The in-game store will feature weekly updates with rotating bundles and limited-time offers, enhancing player engagement. Additionally, the Battle Pass system has been overhauled to include a sector-based unlock mechanism, providing players with the flexibility to choose their progression path and access over 100 rewards, including 1,300 SOI Coins. On July 24, SOI Studios released the Missions Gameplay Trailer and a blog post detailing everything about the cooperative mode.
The Multiplayer mode is set to have a "deep dive" event on August 14, 2025. During this event, every aspect of the mode will be revealed including content in the cooperative Missions mode. On August 2, a teaser video was released that showed parts of the upcoming multiplayer reveal trailer, which was fully released on August 14. On the day, a blog post revealed everything that people need to know regarding the multiplayer mode.
Release
ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2 is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
Multiplayer beta
For those who have pre-ordered Modern Ops 2, they will have early access to the game's Multiplayer open-beta that is scheduled to be held on October 10. The beta will become available for anyone on October 12. The beta will end on October 14, 2025. The beta will be available to play on the launch platforms.
Reception
Pre-release
Following its official announcement, ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2 generated significant attention from both the gaming press and the franchise's player community. Media outlets noted that the game was positioned as one of the most anticipated titles of 2025, citing the commercial success of its predecessors ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2023) and ShooterofIO: Dark Warfare (2024). Critics who attended early preview events highlighted improvements to weapon handling, movement systems, and multiplayer map design, with several describing the gunplay as "fluid" and "responsive." Some also praised the new cooperative "Missions" mode for adding variety to the series' traditional offerings.
At the same time, concerns were raised about the introduction of the SOI Coins premium currency and the overall emphasis on monetization. Commentators questioned whether the in-game economy risked overshadowing gameplay progression, while others expressed skepticism about whether Modern Ops 2 represented a substantial step forward compared to its predecessors. Anticipation ahead of the public beta in October 2025 was described as "polarized," with segments of the fanbase voicing enthusiasm for the title while others criticized the reduced time-to-kill values and map design philosophy. Despite these concerns, industry analysts projected that the game was likely to match or surpass the commercial performance of Dark Warfare due to brand momentum and high preorder figures.
