The Brave and the Bold is an upcoming American superhero film based on DC Comics characters Batman and Robin. Produced by DC Studios and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the second installment in the DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU). Written and directed by Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Luke Evans as Bruce Wayne / Batman and Roman Griffin Davis as Damian Wayne / Robin. It also features Callum Turner as Hal Jordan / Green Lantern, with appearances by members of The Authority including Jesse Plemons as Jenny Sparks and Sam Reid as Apollo.

Development of a new Batman film began following the announcement of the DCCU’s first slate, Chapter One: Crisis, in January 2025. Inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic run of the same name, the film was conceived as a father-son character piece set against a backdrop of escalating global metahuman conflict. Tomlin was confirmed as writer and director in February 2025. The Brave and the Bold marks the introduction of the Bat-Family into DCCU continuity and continues threads involving the Green Lantern Corps and The Authority introduced in prior films.

Pre-production commenced in mid-2025. Principal photography began in December 2025 and wrapped in August 2026, with filming taking place in Chicago, Glasgow, and at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom. Lorne Balfe composed the score.

The Brave and the Bold is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 24, 2027, as part of the DCCU’s Chapter One: Crisis.

Production

Development

In January 2025, DC Studios co-head Freddie Goodwin announced The Brave and the Bold as the second film in the new DC Cinematic Universe, following Superman: Legacy of Tomorrow. The film was based on Grant Morrison's comic run and intended to introduce Bruce Wayne’s son Damian Wayne into the continuity. Mattson Tomlin, who had previously worked on Batman-related projects, was announced in February as both writer and director.

Tomlin described the story as "a grounded psychological tale about legacy, violence, and identity, told on a mythic scale." The decision to incorporate characters from The Authority and the Green Lantern Corps was made early in development to further unify the cosmic and political dimensions of the shared universe.

Pre-production

Pre-production began in summer 2025. Early storyboards and concept art teased a gothic, neo-noir take on Gotham, as well as action sequences involving the Bat-Family and Lantern Corps. Casting was finalized by September 2025, with Luke Evans announced as Batman and Roman Griffin Davis as Damian Wayne. Callum Turner was cast as Hal Jordan to join Aldis Hodge’s John Stewart from the previous film, indicating the expansion of the Lantern mythos.

Filming

Principal photography began in December 2025 and continued through August 2026. Filming took place primarily in Chicago (standing in for Gotham City), Glasgow, and at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Lorne Balfe composed the film’s original score.

Marketing

A teaser poster was revealed at DC FanDome 2025, featuring a shattered Batarang overlaid with a League of Shadows insignia. Warner Bros. debuted the film's first teaser trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, showcasing Batman and Robin in combat with Authority operatives. A full trailer is expected in early 2027.

Release

The Brave and the Bold is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on April 24, 2027. It will be the second entry in the DC Cinematic Universe and part of Chapter One: Crisis.
