The seventh season of the Australian television series School Warrior, based on DC Comics characters, premiered on October 9, 2030, on HBO Max. The season follows Miles Porter / Velocity as he confronts the expanding instability of the fractured timeline after the events of the Accelerator War. The season also marks the return of Grace Porter, portrayed by Nell Fisher, following the character’s complete absence in season six. It is the final season for longtime cast members Asa Butterfield, Robert Downey Jr., and Nick Creegan, who depart the series in the season finale. School Warrior was renewed for an eighth season in April 2031.
Produced by Mob Productions and SOI Studios, Freddie Goodwin and Jackson Greene serve as co-showrunners. The season consists of 16 episodes.
Episodes[edit | edit source]
Season seven continues the series’ “Graphic Novel” structure, merging multiple arcs into a single converging narrative centered on fractured realities and legacy.

| Grace mysteriously reappears at sunrise—alive, older, uncorrupted, and drawn home by the faint static “noise” only she and Miles share—sending the family and Team Velocity into emotional shock as Kendra steps back from her career to focus on their daughter while Emily is unexpectedly promoted, but small, unsettling fractures begin trailing Grace throughout Midvale: flickering lights, frozen seconds, glitching birds, and patterned cracks forming wherever she walks, prompting Miles and Emily to suspect she wasn’t simply “returned” but delivered by something else, a theory confirmed when Grace accidentally unleashes a circle of fractured tile and admits that “something followed her home,” while a hidden figure monitoring her arrival activates a white-static drone and orders a retrieval—signaling that Grace’s comeback has awakened a new threat tied to the Fracture itself. | ||||||||||||

Production[edit | edit source]
Development[edit | edit source]
On January 7, 2030, HBO Max renewed School Warrior for a seventh season following strong viewership and digital engagement during season six.[1] During the 2030 Midvale Fan Expo, Freddie Goodwin stated that the season would serve as “the end of the original family era,” while confirming that Asa Butterfield, Robert Downey Jr., and Nick Creegan would exit the series at the conclusion of the season. Despite their departures, HBO Max announced on April 4, 2031 that School Warrior would continue with an eighth season featuring a refreshed ensemble.[2]
The season also marks the return of Grace Porter, recast with actress Nell Fisher after the original actor became unavailable during the previous production cycle.
Writing[edit | edit source]
Grace Porter — Miles and Kendra’s daughter and a central figure in the fifth season — is completely absent from season six. Her exclusion was not narrative; it was a production setback. The young actor portraying Grace became unavailable after being pulled from the series in the wake of public accusations of abuse and harassment. Although the claims were later proven false, the controversy caused scheduling conflicts and studio hesitation, forcing the writers to rework large sections of the season to function without her presence. The creative team addressed the issue by shifting emotional weight onto Miles and Kendra, retooling several arcs to focus on the psychological fallout rather than the family dynamic previously planned.
For season seven, with Nell Fisher stepping into the role, the writers restored Grace to the story exactly where she had originally been planned to re-emerge. Showrunner Jackson Greene described her return as “a reinstatement of a narrative thread we were forced to pause, not abandon.” Her reintroduction required adjustments to early scripts, enabling Grace to play a pivotal role in both the emotional and mythological arcs of the season.
Season seven consists of 16 episodes, which the showrunners described as “a tighter, more serialized arc” compared to the wider 22-episode format of previous years. The reduced episode count allowed the writing team to eliminate filler and directly interlock the season’s overlapping “Graphic Novel” arcs into a single, cohesive story. Goodwin stated that this approach “mirrors the collapsing structure of the fractured timeline itself.”

Casting[edit | edit source]
Main cast members Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Noah Jupe, Madelaine Petsch, Melissa Barrera, Jacob Tremblay, Robert Downey Jr., and Nick Creegan all return from previous seasons. Season seven also features the return of Grace Porter, now portrayed by Nell Fisher. Fisher replaces the original actor, who did not appear in season six following production complications and scheduling conflicts arising from external allegations made during the previous filming cycle.
Butterfield, Downey Jr., and Creegan were confirmed to be departing the series at the conclusion of season seven, with the finale written to provide definitive closure for their characters’ arcs. Showrunner Jackson Greene stated that their exits were “planned as part of the show’s long-term transition into the next phase of the Warriorverse.”
No new series regulars were added for the season, and producers indicated that recurring and guest cast announcements would be revealed closer to air. Greene and Goodwin noted that the condensed ensemble was intentional, allowing the writers to emphasize the emotional weight of the departing characters’ storylines while reintegrating Grace Porter into the narrative after her absence.
It is currently unknown whether Steinfeld will remain with the series beyond season seven.
Filming[edit | edit source]
Filming for season seven began in late March 2030 in Melbourne, Victoria, continuing the series’ long-standing use of the city as the primary location for Midvale. Production shifted to a more streamlined shooting schedule to accommodate the reduced 16-episode format, with showrunner Freddie Goodwin noting that the tighter structure “allowed the crew to focus on higher-density storytelling and more ambitious effects sequences per episode.”
A significant portion of the season’s early filming required revised planning due to the reintroduction of Grace Porter. With Nell Fisher taking over the role, the production team reshot several scenes originally conceptualized during season six’s development, integrating Grace organically into the new storyline. Jackson Greene described the process as “a careful balance of honoring the original intent while letting Nell’s interpretation shape the emotional tone of season seven.”
Action-heavy episodes involving large-scale temporal and atmospheric effects were filmed at Docklands Studios using expanded LED volume stages first introduced in season five. According to producers, the technology allowed the team to depict fractured timeline environments and multi-layered lightning effects “more efficiently and with greater visual coherence” compared to previous seasons.
Cast members Butterfield, Downey Jr., and Creegan all filmed their final scenes for the series during January 2031. Their finale shoot spanned six nights and included the largest coordinated stunt sequence since the show’s fourth season. Goodwin described the filming of the finale as “an emotional culmination for the original cast,” with extensive behind-the-scenes documentation recorded for future release.
