The Zerra Halo 12 is a smartphone developed and marketed by Zerra Technologies. It was unveiled on September 19, 2019, as the successor to the Zerra Halo X, marking the beginning of Zerra’s 12th generation flagship lineup. The device launched alongside the smaller Halo 12 Mini.

History

The Halo 12 was developed as a refinement of the bezel-less design introduced with the Halo X in 2017, but with emphasis on durability, computational imaging, and higher storage tiers. It was the final Zerra device to use the proprietary Z-Port for charging and accessories, as later models would fully transition to USB-C.

It shipped with ZerraOS 9 and introduced Zerra’s first large-scale computational imaging system, leveraging the Z-Core Velocity chip’s dedicated AI cores for real-time scene detection and low-light enhancement. Support was extended through ZerraOS 13, released in 2023.

Design

The Halo 12 used a 6.1 inches (150 mm) Eclipse Infinity OLED display with HDR10 support and slimmer bezels compared to the Halo X. Its frame was made of strengthened aluminum, with curved glass on both front and back. The phone was available in four colors: Obsidian Black, Frost White, Aurora Blue, and Solaris Gold.

Hardware

The device was powered by the Z-Core Velocity SoC with 6 GB RAM, paired with storage options ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB. Its 4,100 mAh battery supported 25 W fast charging via Z-Port and 7.5 W wireless charging.

Display

The 6.1-inch Infinity OLED panel offered a resolution of 2688×1242 pixels at 460 ppi, with TrueMotion dynamic refresh technology and HDR10 certification.

Cameras

The rear triple-camera setup consisted of a 48 MP wide lens, a 16 MP ultrawide, and a 12 MP telephoto with 2× optical zoom. It was the first Halo device to feature Zerra’s Computational Vision Engine for night photography and real-time enhancements.

The front-facing camera was a 16 MP HDR sensor integrated into the display notch.

Software

At launch, the device ran ZerraOS 9, introducing enhanced multitasking and Zerra Cloud integration. Later updates to ZerraOS 11, ZerraOS 12, and ZerraOS 13 brought features such as adaptive AI, Zerra Share cross-device syncing, and improved customization options.

Reception

The Halo 12 received generally positive reviews. Critics praised the improved camera performance, HDR OLED display, and strong build quality. Some criticism was directed at Zerra for continuing to rely on the Z-Port connector when much of the industry had already standardized on USB-C. Nonetheless, the Halo 12 sold strongly, particularly in Europe and Asia, and established the foundation for the transition into the Halo 13 and later models.
