----Flashbacks reveal Orlin’s origin, showing him struck by a wave of Dark Matter in 1960, which granted him powers but also sent him into the future. Initially intending to use his abilities for good, Orlin was mistaken for a timeline-altering speedster and attacked by Black Flash. In desperation, he wielded a meta-powered lightning dagger to repel Black Flash, leading to his resolve to eliminate all metahumans, blaming them for his ruined life.

His inquiry leads him to a metahuman known as "Mirror Master," who ambushes Jason and forces him to retreat after a one-sided battle. Seeking help, Jason enlists Emily, Sophia, and Linda, though the latter two remain unaware of Miles' secret identity. Mirror Master launches an attack on the city, prompting Jason to confront him as Steel in a decisive battle, ultimately defeating the villain. Upon Miles and Kendra’s return, Miles learns that with time, his speed can naturally recover to its original levels.

Bart returns to warn Miles that his world faces imminent danger. A mysterious masked metahuman wielding a lightning-shaped dagger attacks and kills a group of young metahumans before vanishing. Meanwhile, Wells enlists Miles to officially join the MCPD to investigate these brutal murders. A flashback reveals that after Zoloman's death, the Speed Force resurrected him as the zombified "Black Flash," a relentless enforcer tasked with hunting speedsters who tamper with the timeline. In the present, Bart is ambushed by Black Flash and barely survives after being overpowered, only for Miles to intervene with a well-aimed lightning strike, driving Black Flash away. The masked metahuman is revealed to be Cicada, a vengeful figure determined to exterminate all metahumans using advanced meta-powered technology. Kendra, Jason, and Sophia uncover that Cicada leads the shadowy organization responsible for dozens of metahuman deaths. Bart explains to Miles that Black Flash only targets those who alter timelines. Determined to stop both threats, Miles vows to outpace Black Flash and protect his world.

Miles and his team, now officially called "Team Velocity," focus on devising a strategy to defeat Black Flash, while Kendra, Linda, Emily, and Sophia work together to dismantle Cicada’s cult. Miles trains rigorously with Bart to regain his peak speed, aiming to prepare for the escalating threats. Cicada, revealed to be Orlin Dwyer, confronts Kendra, threatening to kill Miles if they continue their efforts to stop him. Meanwhile, Black Flash ambushes Miles and begins siphoning his Speed Force energy. Bart intervenes and seemingly destroys Black Flash, but before they can regroup, Cicada attacks, using his dagger to strip them of their speed and overpowering both speedsters. Jason, as Steel, arrives just in time to force Cicada into retreat.

Flashbacks reveal Orlin’s origin, showing him struck by a wave of Dark Matter in 1960, which granted him powers but also sent him into the future.

Development

In March 2025, Netflix renewed the series for a third season with 20 episodes. The series was originally intended to conclude with the second season without having a third season, however HBO Max had the series renewed after buying rights to it and ordered a season that will have 20 episodes.

Writing

When Goodwin wrote the second season, he wrote it as a final season. After he found out the series was revived and renewed for a third season, with a much larger 20 episode order, Goodwin decided to keep the second season as it is and just focus on telling a story with any future season. He announced that the third season would be split up into mini storyline arcs called "Graphic Novels", and would feature small "interlude" filler episodes between each.

Discussing the events of the first graphic novel, Goodwin said the villain would be very powerful, but not the strongest villain of the season. Goodwin announced that the Reverse-Velocity would return in the season at some point and would play a "vital role" in the story. Goodwin confirmed Bart Allen's return at some point too.

Release

The season premiered on October 16, 2026, and will conclude on June 25, 2027.
